Boundless energy in Shishan Cultural Square was the order of the day in Suzhou New District as a three-on-three basketball competition was held as part of the National Fitness Games in Shishan Sports Park from November 2 to 5.
Twelve teams composed of basketball enthusiasts from the district competed against each other, showcasing the strong basketball culture of the area and the athletes’ outstanding skills. The players were agile, coordinated, passed accurately and shot for goal fiercely. On the sidelines there were raucous cheers as family and friends spurred the players on.
Sweat and laughter flowing together epitomized the gusto with which the teams played, and after two nights of intense competition the Yangshan Basketball Team 2 came out victorious. The team Ferocious Tigers was runner-up, and the Diamond team was third.
The basketball tournament served as a catalyst for many people to take part in sports. The National Fitness Games in New District, which opened in August, have attracted many people. Events such as the Dynamic Shishan Night brisk walking activity and the Double Ninth Festival mountain climbing activity have been popular. Mass sports competitions such as square dancing, table tennis, tennis and chess have also taken place.
Shishan Cultural Square boasts a naturally beautiful open mountain and water park and provides a one-stop urban space for leisure and sports. It was in the square that the first comprehensive sports scene store in the country of the Xtep Group was set up, catering to sports such as running, tennis and pickleball. A 5-kilometer digital running track is the first of its kind in Suzhou and has been certified by the Chinese Athletics Association as a smart running track, with event results achieving certification from the Chinese Athletics Association.
New District will continue to promote the building of national fitness facilities, carry out multi-level and diversified mass sports activities, and encourage as many people as possible to take part.
