Suzhou New District will welcome two distinctive live performances this autumn, bringing together contemporary classical music and traditional Chinese magic.
Maksim to Bring His Segmenti II World Tour to Suzhou
International crossover pianist Maksim will perform at the Shishan Grand Theatre on November 26 and 27 as part of his Segmenti II World Tour. The November 27 performance is sold out, and an additional show has been scheduled for November 26.
The approximately 90-minute concert, without an intermission, will blend classical compositions with popular hits, combining the works of composers such as Chopin, Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky with music by legendary bands including ABBA and Queen.
Known for his crossover approach to piano performance, Maksim brings classical and contemporary musical styles together in a high-energy show featuring striking visual effects. His repertoire spans classical music, film scores, pop and electronic music.
Maksim is among the world's best-selling crossover pianists. His albums have earned gold and platinum certifications in 57 countries, with worldwide sales reaching millions of copies. He studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest and the Scriabin Music Academy in Paris, and has performed internationally, including tours in Japan.
The Suzhou concerts will take place at 7:30 p.m. on both dates, offering audiences an opportunity to experience his distinctive fusion of classical technique and popular music.
Traditional Chinese Magic Comes to Suzhou New District
Another highlight will take place on October 18, when Jinmen Magic comes to the cultural center in Suzhou New District.
Xiao Guisen, a nationally recognized inheritor of the traditional Chinese magic art form listed as intangible cultural heritage, will perform alongside his apprentice, Liu Guangyi.
The show draws on traditional Chinese stage magic, featuring seemingly impossible feats involving water, longevity peaches and a brazier. The performance will offer audiences a glimpse into a traditional art form passed down through generations.
Together, the two events showcase the variety of live entertainment available in Suzhou New District, from an internationally touring crossover piano concert to the spectacle of traditional Chinese performance art.
